Winter/Spring 2010
Heidi Contreras School of Art
Dear Parents and Students,
It is hard to believe that 2010 has arrived. Much has happened since I last communicated with you.
We had a great year of art in 2009. We learned so much and had fun doing it! Some of my private students learned how to do stained glass, solder, and make amazing jewelry. Others learned how to make paper from trash, paint in acrylics, oils, and draw portraits, cartoons just to name a few. And others won awards at the Family Children Services Annual Poster Contest. I am so proud of every one of my students. You are all AWESOME!
The 2010 Winter/Spring art schedule, and current supply lists are up on the website. Thank you so much for your patience as I learn to navigate my website! Also, Mayfest Youth art competition is coming soon. Any student may enter this contest.
My intern, Ana and I drove to Taos, New Mexico. We checked out the Lipperd Painting Studio. This is an Art Hostel where students choose from pottery, jewelry making, plein air painting or portraiture painting in oils taught by master artist, from the New York Student Art League, Brian Lipperd. The school provides a private room and one hot meal a day along with excellent art instruction. We stayed a week, and Ana decided to study for six months at the Hostel. I will miss Ana, as she has been a great student, helper and friend.
My future plans are to teach art to children and teens through one weekend—one week workshops in Taos, while still teaching at my art school and at Water Street Art Gallery in Sapulpa. By the way, if you are looking for affordable art and one of a kind jewelry, Water Street Art Gallery is an amazing little Art Shoppe located on 16 S. Water St, Sapulpa, OK.
A side benefit from our trip to Taos is that The Firenza Gallery in Arroyo Seco, NM accepted my art for their gallery. So this has been an adventure for me, too.
Again, thank you!
Heidi R. de Contreras
